CBDRM Activities

Project Objectives

  • Strengthening community disaster coping mechanism through community based disaster risk management and district management planning
  • To reduce disaster risk and strengthen the coping capabilities of people in 10 selected districts of Madhya Pradesh by way of initiating community based disaster risk reduction and preparation and implementation of district disaster management plans

Project scope:

The scope of the project covers development of disaster management plans for 250 villages in 10 districts namely Harda, Raisen, Chhindwara, Dhar, Barwani, Mandsaur, Damoh, Guna,  Sheopur and  Satna. These districts were selected on the basis of the state hazard profile prepared by the DMI. The district administration in each of the ten districts was asked to identify 25 villages from their districts for the purpose of project implementation.  The village level activities were undertaken by a nodal NGO identified by the district administration.  The nodal NGO identified by the district administration was trained, supported and monitored by the DMI project staff.  It was proposed that the DMI will facilitate and prepare the District Disaster Management Plans through a consultative process with the members of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and with other important members of the district administration as well as the Nodal NGO identified for the preparation of the initiatives at the village level.
